City of Derry star swimmer, Ryan Harrison (above), was in outstanding form at the Irish Long Course Swimming Championships and Olympic Time Trial held at the National Aquatic Centre, Blanchardstown, Dublin last weekend when he showed his tremendous potential by producing two devastating performances to take both titles in the 200 and 400 freestyle events.
There were 73 entries in the 200 metres and after the heats Ryan was lying in fourth place with only seven hundredths of a second separating the first four finalists

In the final Ryan showed experience beyond his years and great patience as he sat on the heels of Conor Leaney (City of Belfast) and Paulius Andrijauskas (Lithuania) for the first 150 metres then simply putting his foot to the floor in the final fifty to finish in 1 min. 52.82 secs. taking the title and breaking his own Irish Junior record 0.5 secs ahead of Leaney with the Lithuanian in third place.

The 400 freestyle was an easier event although Ryan went out too fast but was still able to hold off the challenge of Jack Nunn (WWCRC) and Seamus Stacey (Coolmine) to win comfortably.

Ryan's next outing will be with the Irish National squad ant the Dutch National championships in Eindhoven in early June.
