Sir,
Good editorial on page two of Tuesday’s Derry Journal 27th October, “Clamping down on drink”, in which you warn us of the horrors of cheap drink promotions in the city.

It’s about uoung people staggering out of establishments almost unconscious with alcohol, assaults, vandalism, anti-social behaviour, children as young as 12 or 13 years of age being treated for the effects of alcohol etc.

Then we turn to the advertisement on page 26 of the same paper: “The Bentley Bar”, 3 Market Street, Derry - Sunday - Friday: Pints, alcopops, premium beers - £2.20. Thursday: Harp Ice promotions - 4 pints £8.

What was that the American Indian Chief used to say in the old Western movies? ‘White man speak with forked tongue’.

Yours,

Bernard McCarron
