I visit Derry every year and stay at Leafair Park. I have done this for the last twenty five years. This used to be a lovely little estate, quiet, clean and tidy and family orientated. Over the last few years the estate has deteriorated into a place
where no one wants to live. Why?? - young thugs, hold decent people to ransom - wrecking their fences, invading their gardens and sheds, breaking their windows, breaking into and damaging their cars - targeting especially the vulnerable and elderly and quite happily telling people to f... off if they complain and continue to wreak even more havoc and damage on the complainer.
Sadly people on the estate are reduced to keeping their doors and their mouths shut. You have to ask where are and what are the parents of these young people doing in allowing them to do such damage to peoples property and lives. Why do the police fail to come out when called - tomorrow is not good enough when people are in trouble.
The politicians, police, Housing Executive, community and church leaders need to get seriously involved to support the community.
Sadly anxiety is turning to despair and apathy will surely follow. The war is over!! As yet there is no peace for the good people of Leafair.
