SOME 53 pipe bands will gather at the Banbridge Academy sports grounds on Saturday, June 16, for this year's annual piping contests.Beginning at 11.30am, the bands will compete in six grades, with the same number of drum majors.
The championships regularly attract large crowds to Banbridge but in an effort to build even more on the event’s success the local pipe band association has joined with The Ulster Scots Agency to stage a concert starring The Red Hot Chilli Pipers, who will stay on for the event following their scheduled Friday night appearance at the Iveagh Movie Studios.

A host of other acts will also be on stage during this open-air concert held alongside the band contests.

Stage performances begin at 12.30pm with local musicians Birnagh.
