Markethill Swifts Res 0
Moneyslane 2
MONEYSLANE'S first team travelled to Markethill Swifts Reserves to take part in a Junior Shield game.
The game started slowly with both teams trying to find their feet but suddenly the game burst into life when Neil Bingham collected the ball in the
halfway line and went on a mazy run taking on four players and was very unlucky when his shot from just inside the box shaved the wrong side of the post.
Moneyslane were playing well down the right with Gareth Wilson and Mark Gibson causing the home team problems at the back.
Markethill started to come into the game playing some good football but the centre back partnership of Willy Thompson and David Ervine were defending well and the home side continued to play well, creating a couple of good chances but Nigel Fry was up to the challenge and made a couple of good saves between the Slane sticks.
The second half started with Moneyslane playing some good football as Andy Rowan and Mark Ervine controlled the centre of midfield.
Slane continued to play well and could have taken the lead when a brilliant ball from the right by Neil Hanna was met by M. Ervine who was denied by a brilliant save from the home keeper.
Moneyslane got their reward 15 minutes into the second half from a corner which was met by A. Rowan who drilled the ball into the net.
The visitors were finding their feet now and were causing the home team problems with John Thompson and John Davenport combining well on the left.
Markethill never lay down and played some good football but couldn't break down the Moneyslane defence and N. Fry in the Moneyslane goal.
Moneyslane were always dangerous on the break and could have extended their lead through David Boyd but he seen his lob just clear the bar. Moneyslane got their second goal from a break when J. Thompson was put through by M. Gibson and he rounded the keeper and slotted the ball home.
Best on the day for Slane was Neil Hanna.
Moneyslane would like to thank Markethill for their warm welcome and the food provided after the game. They would also like to wish a speedy recovery to the Markethill player taken off with a head injury.
