Award-winning playwright Frank McGuinness will speak at an exhibition on the local tradition of shirt-making at 6pm next Friday, November 28 in the Saldhana Suite, Fort Dunree.
One of the Buncrana-born dramatist and professor's best-loved works, The Factory Girls, was based on stories his mother and aunts told of their many years working in the town's textile industry.
Also officiating at the event will be John McCarter,
who is chairperson of both Fort Dunree Military Museum and Inishowen Development Partnership, and a former director of McCarter's shirt factory.
Sophie Hope, of B+B Curators, London will officially open the show which is called 'REMNANT'.
It features an audio-visual installation and large-scale projection event that reflects the experiences of local people who have worked in the linen/garment industry in the north-west region.
Archive footage from local factories and international garment workers films will also be screened and refreshments will be served.
The film will be screened again on Saturday, November 29 and Sunday, November 30 at 5pm.
Local artist Marie Barrett, Artistic Director of North-55, the organisation which has put the exhibition together, will give a talk about the project and its development on Saturday, December 6 at 2pm.
