Local yoga teacher John Bell has come up with a novel way to celebrate five years of teaching yoga in the city. He has organised a unique event in St Columb's Park, Waterside this Saturday, 4th July starting at 12 midday and lasting for two hours.
John said: “ I wanted to do something different and I had this idea to have a yoga session outside in the fresh air, and I also wanted to be able to bring as many people together as possible to practise yoga in one place”;

He has booked the synthe
tic football pitch in St Columb’s Park for the event and hopes there will be enough space for everybody!

So, all you yoga enthusiasts - come along on the day, bring your yoga mat and belt and bring all your friends and family and prepare to enjoy an alfresco yoga session! People who have never done yoga before are very welcome.

As John says, there is a first time for everything and if you have been thinking about trying yoga for a while this is a great opportunity to get started. If you don’t have a yoga mat bring along a bath towel to use as a mat and an old tie to use as a belt. John says the day will be suitable for anyone aged 10 and over; you don’t need any previous experience, just the willingness to open your mind to trying something you’ve have never done before.

John will lead the session but he has already got the help and support of several other yoga teachers from Derry - Evelyn, Sharon, Hilda and Ursula to name a few - who have promised to be there on the day to help out.

“It would be impossible to do this by myself and I really appreciate their willingness to do all they can to ensure the day is a success”, John added.

John is asking for a minimum donation of £10 per person and all proceeds are going tto local charity, the Northlands Centre, which has a special place in John’s heart.

He says Northlands does sterling work in the local community, providing support to people of all ages, and from all walks of life, to deal with and overcome their addictions.

John promises some light refreshments will be provided after the yoga is over.
