Full details of MLAs' expenses dating back to 2003 are to be published online later this year, it has been announced.
The move is part of a bid to provide more transparency at Stormont and comes after a report from the Assembly Review Commission.

Break-down

Previously, Assembly members’ expenses have been published under general headings such as travel and office costs but from November a detailed breakdown will be given.

The move has been welcomed by the Speaker of the Assembly, Foyle MLA Willie Hay.

"Since the restoration of devolution, the Assembly has been taking steps to progressively put more information on MLA expenses into the public domain.

"This move is the latest in our efforts to do that. People want and deserve to know how their money is being spent.

“We must do all we can to make transparency the norm, not the exception,” he said.
