A Donegal man who was shot by dissident republicans has offered to testify in court against members of the Real IRA from Derry.
Security sources in the Republic have said that Liam McGinley, a Letterkenny man, has named the men who shot former Sinn Féin official Denis Donaldson and is prepared to testify against republicans.

Mr McGinley was shot and wounded by a dissident gang and dumped on a remote road in the Derryveagh Mountains in November 2007. It is believed that, after the shooting, he agreed to co-operate with Gardaí in return for protection.

A file outlining his knowledge of the Real IRA, which contains the names of the men who shot him, is being examined by the Director or Public Prosecutions, it has been claimed.
