A Co Tyrone woman has been fined £20,000 for dumping more than 1,200 tonnes of illegal waste.
Margaret McGinnis, of Urney Road, Clady was found guilty on two charges of illegally depositing waste and fined £10,000 on each charge at Strabane Magistrates’ Court pn Friday.

The court heard that on 6 November 2007, officers from the Northern Ireland Environment Agency (formerly Environment and Heritage Service) investigated a site at Urney Road owned by McGinnis where a substantial quantity of controlled wastes in the form of tar, soil, stones, wood, plastic and garden waste had been deposited.

The infill of controlled waste was approximately 1,200 tonnes and disposing of this waste legally would have cost almost £72,000.
