As politicians across the globe try to find common ground, the students at St Mary's Boys' Primary School, Strabane, are leading the way in running a successful and effective school council, with representatives from every year group having a say in the running of their school.
Mrs Flatman, St Mary’s School Council Co-ordinator, said: “Each class have nominated a school council pupil, who has the job of representing the needs and interests of the students within their class on the school council.

“This is a unique opportunity for students to comment on facilities within the school, fundraising ideas and how to make the school an even better learning environment,” she added.

One of the school representatives said: “The council is really good, it gives pupils a chance to talk about what we would like see happen in the school and hopefully our suggestions can now become a reality.”
