Big plans for carnival parade, Hallowe'en fun

On Sunday 28th October the Buncrana Arts Festival Group is organising a Hallowe'en Carnival Parade in Buncrana. The parade will go through the Main Street and end up in the Lidl Car Park where there will be live music and entertainment throughout the night.
The parade begins at 6 p.m. and everyone is urged to dress up in costume as there will be spot prizes for the best costumes in various categories. To round up the evening there will be a charity event in the Inishowen Gateway Hotel with Purple Hill
and the Passion Fruit Club.
Swilly Gardening Club will meet next Monday at 8 p.m. in the Angling Centre. Guest speakers on the night will be Ian Gomersall and Colm Grant. The prizes for best gardens will also be presented on the night.
The competition for this month is for the best pumpkin. Telephone 9363009 for details.
Also in the Angling Centre, cards sessions will resume next Thursday, 18th at 8 p.m. All welcome.
John Craig's play 'The Lady from Leitrim' will be staged in St. Mary's Hall on Tuesday and Wednesday 23rd and 24th october. Admission is 10 euro, children 5 euro. All proceeds in aid of Alan Doherty.

The Irish Blood Transfusion Service will hold a blood donor clinic in the Inishowen Gateway Hotel on Monday, 15th from 6.30 - 9.30 p.m. and Tuesday, 15th from 2.30 - 4.45 p.m. and 7 - 9.30 p.m.
Please make a special effort to attend this clinic especially O Rh Negative and A Rh Negative donors are requested to attend as these groups comprise only 8% and 5% of the population respectively. The demand for these blood groups is always high throughout the year. If you are 67 years old or over and have given a donation in the last 5 years you may continue to donate until you are 70 years of age. You will however, be required to produce a medical certificate from your doctor indicating that you are fit to donate. You will be asked to produce this certificate each time you donate and it will need to be renewed on an annual basis. The IBTS will however reimburse you for the cost incurred on submission of receipts.
The Fahan Community Council is looking for volunteers to research the local history of the area. This research will include the 6th century monastic settlement to the last train that ran through the village. The group hope to put together the information and a website about the village. Buncrana Community Library is currently hosting two exhibitions - 'Inishowen Moth Survey', which includes photos and information on the moth species sighted in inishowen and 'From Dublin Dock to Rathmullan Pier' with pictures aboard the Jeanie Johnston Tallship on her first journey into Lough Swilly where she took part in the Flight of the Earls celebrations. Scoil Mhuire's 'Helping Your First Year With Maths' began last Wednesday October 10th at 11.30 a.m. in the school. The course lasts for one hour. Maths is one of the most important subjects on the curriculum and parents have found it very helpful in the past. The course will run for six weeks and may be continued if parents so wish. A Mother and Toddler Group is held every Wednesday in Wain's World from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.
The Buncrana G.A.A. club has launched a new logo competition. They want a new, modern logo which will be recognised anywhere in Ireland and the competition is open to everyone. The new logo, which will be chosen by club members, will be used as the club crest and in all Buncrana G.A.A. promotional materials from signage to sports bags.
You can submit your entry on A4 paper with your name, address and telephone number on the reverse. Entries are free of charge but are limited to one per person. School entries will be collected by a committee member on the week ending 19th October and the final closing date for postal entries is 12 noon on 19th October so you only have one week to go. The Irish Wheelchair Association is seeking volunteers to participate in their annual walk next Easter 19th - 29th March, 2008 The walk will include places like the Grand Canyon, the Indian Trail, you will meet the Indians on their reservation, explore the Painted Desert, trek through the Kaibab National Forest, Route 66, Hoover Dam and the deserts of Las Vegas. WeightWatchers-Buncrana will be held in the Lake of Shadows Hotel on Tuesdays (you can enter by the side door). The first class is held at 5.15 p.m., the second class at 6.30 p.m. and the third class is at 7.45 p.m. New members are very welcome.
The Inishowen Athletics' Club has now started juvenile training on Wednesdays in the Leisure Centre at 7 p.m. for children 8 years and over.
Also being held in the Leisure Centre is Aquafit classes every Wednedsay at 8 p.m. ages 16+. No swimming ability is required and all welcome.
Yoga classes for those with Multiple Sclerosis have resumed in the Leisure Centre on Mondays at 12 noon. Yoga for beginners has also started on Tuesdays at 6.30 p.m. For details telephone Marian 086 1740054.

The Elliott School of Irish Dancing will be held in the Buncrana Youth Club every Monday and Thursday from 3.45 - 5.15 p.m. for 3 years and up. All welcome.
