Conceive it, Believe it and now comes the Achieve it! You have formulated a picture of what you want the end result to look like and explored whether you have the belief to back it up, so it's time to take action.
As simple as it may sound, coaching is all about questioning. Asking questions that make you think and reflect and asking questions that produce answers that will get you results.
Ask yourself - what do I need to do to achieve this goal? Can I d
o it on my own? Who or what help do I need? A few key areas to consider are . . .
Support - Very often high achievers are perfectionists and tend to believe if you want a job done right then you’ve got to do it your self! This is a recipe for burnout for sure and doesn’t sound very time efficient. What support is out there to help you achieve your goal? Whether it be business agencies, business support networks or mentoring scheme,s why take the long and painful road of experience when you can glean the benefits of others who have been on that road?
Gain Knowledge - Knowledge is power and self-knowledge is self-empowerment so ask yourself - what are your strengths? In what areas are you most effective? Do you need to gain extra training or skills in a particular area? If working with a team, assess what each individual’s strengths are. Delegate to create efficiency of time and skills. What knowledge would help you achieve your goal and where can you get it?
Develop Strategies - It’s important to have an action plan to work towards your goal but there needs to be flexibility. In every environment change is inevitable so it’s important to be adaptable while still keeping the outcome in sight.
Be solution focused - Sometimes you can’t see the answer for looking and that’s when some lateral thinking comes into play. When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change!
Acceptance - As Eckhart Tolle (author of “The Power of Now”) said: “A situation should either be dealt with or accepted…why make it a problem?”. If you have control over a situation, then do something about it. If you don’t, accept that and move on.
Next week we will look at how to maintain continued success and continue to explore achieving your goal.
