Autism charity appeal for phones

Got an old phone lying around?

Then local charity Parents of Older Children with Autism (P.O.C.A) need your help.

The group hopes to collect hundreds of old phones to exchange for top of the range iPads for the participants of their weekly youth club.

The charity, which was set up earlier this year by local mother Edelle Canning, is currently helping almost 30 families. POCA has now forged links with another parent led Autism group based in Belfast, Helping Hands, in the hope of getting much needed equipment for their weekly youth club.

Edelle had been collecting phones for her 13-year-old son Eoin for the last number of months and just over two weeks ago Helping Hands exchanged it for an iPad.

“To see his face when he got it was just brilliant.

“We are still working our way round it but there are many useful things like alarms and calendars.

“It is great for his school work and Helping Hands have been able to recommend apps specifically aimed at ASD children.”

For each iPad the group will need to exchange 150 phones, which must be a full unit and no more than ten years old.

If you have an old phone contact 07510876778. Old phones can also be left into Pilots Row.
