Car Boot Sale-R-Us
Looking shady on a Sunday morning comes often naturally to me, especially after a heavy session the night before.
Finding myself doing this in an open car park in Greysteel is something I can assure you, never happens, well, until the other day that is.
I know it sounds a bit dodgy, but it's more innocent than that. I just like to try out new things, so I took a scoot down to the Sunday morning car boot sale to see what all the fuss was about.
Okay, so maybe it is as dodgy as it sounds after all, but so-what, it was all a bit of craic. And besides David Dickenson from Bargain Hunt is always recommending how much fun they are - that's where he allegedly gets all his tanning gear at knock off prices.
You can get virtually anything at a car boot sale. If you're lucky you may even find you can get your picture taken with an ex-Big Brother housemate for a reasonable cost of less than 50 and a free signature thrown in…..or so I've been informed, but that's not why I was there.
I was there as a morale booster for my mate who was trying to get rid of her *cough* crap *cough* before setting off on her 'around the world travels'.
Despite having nothing to sell but clothes and one random electric shaver complete with thigh hair (one elderly man asked how much for her dusty mobile phone), she only managed to sell a hat for 3 which meant she traded at a loss as she paid 5 to get in.
We decided that failing to make any money was the result of opting to sell her summer clothes from 1992 instead of her extensive collection of Polish toys, which is what people assumed we had stashed away.
At least that is what we assumed they were asking for, I'd never even heard of them.
It got requested on more than 30+ occasions. Some even asked if we had them 'in the back' as if they were illegal.
I enjoyed myself and I am looking forward to going back again in the summer. I am told 'it thrives at that time of the year' though next time we'll probably take a car with us as that apparently is also a good selling point.
We live and learn.
