The Doc’s Prescription - Arsene Wenger’s Bad Business
I’m a great admirer of Arsenal boss, Arsene Wenger, but that doesn’t blind me to his faults!
The French man is usually criticised for his inability to purchase top quality defenders but, to be honest, some of his recent buys in other positions have not been good either.
Originally Wenger was seen as a genius who could spot early on the potential of young players like Thierry Henry and Patrick Viera and then have the ability to turn them into superstars,
But recently his purchases and discoveries haven’t really worked out and if I was in charge of finance at the Emirates, I’d have a bit of a sweat if the manager asked for money for a new player to add to the squad.
Look at the likes of Nicklas Bendtner or Maroune Chamakh both rumoured to be on £70,000 per week and tell me would they even be first choice in a mid-table Premiership team?
When Andrey Arshavin first burst onto the Premiership scene it looked as though Wenger had discovered another gem but he has faded to the point where he is a liability.
When you add to that list, Almunia, Gervinho, Denilson, Djourou and various others one begins to wonder if Wenger has lost his magic touch.
His next few buys will be crucial to Arsenal’s ability to stay in the top four and the Emirates Faithful and football in general, will be watching very closely and very critically.
