Two places, one time

Ever been invited to two separate birthday bashes in the one evening in two different locations? That was the dilemma I faced at the weekend, somehow I managed to do both - and miraculously managed to stay sober throughout. Yep, still off the booze and thanks to Lent I now have a valid-ish enough excuse as to why I'm off it.

The first mission was to celebrate a good mate's birthday that took place in Inishowen's The Railway Tavern. Now it's well known for its steaks and I was the only person at the table to not have one. The rawness of them in the middle makes me shudder and judging by the look on one of my friends' faces she too seemed to be a novice to the taste of a rare cooked steak. It was her first time and thought she'd give it a go. When I asked what it tasted like, she joked: 'It's like chewing a cheek.'! It sort of put a different perspective on the term 'mouthwatering'. I think she'll stick to well done and I'll stick to my fish and chicken from now on.

After the meal, everyone was for heading back to my mates for all night celebrations and endless fun of Singstar on the PS2. I've never dabbled in the Karaoke version myself, but apparently it was a great night's craic and went on till the early morn despite none of them actually having a microphone. I was at the second part of the night's celebrations to celebrate any occasion including my wee sister's birthday. Although I arrived at Martha's Vinyard after they had eaten, all in all it was a great night and the next morning I woke up feeling hangover free while everyone else was suffering. It was then I felt a bit left out in joining them in their miserableness and for the first time since I'd been of the booze, took a sneaky look at the calendar and saw that the ending of Lent is just around the corner. Bring it on!
