Conservation Volunteers hold invasive species workshop
Conservation Volunteers Northern Ireland in conjunction with Derry City Council and the Northern Ireland Rural Development Programme are holding a Invasive Species clearance workshop (to help prevent the spread of Sudden Oak Death)
The disease kills oak and other species of tree and has had devastating effects on the oak populations.
Symptoms include bleeding cankers on the tree’s trunk and dieback of the foliage, in many cases eventually leading to the death of the tree.
Very few control mechanisms exist for the disease, and they rely upon early detection and proper disposal of infected plant material.
The event will take place on Tuesday 7th February 2012 at Claudy Country Park from 1pm to 4pm
