Festival to link communities

A community festival aimed at overcoming segregation and promoting cultural diversity is to be held in Derry’s Waterside later this month.

Now in its third year, the Waterside Community Links Festival, funded by the EU’s Peace III Building Positive Relationships programme, will take place in St Columb’s Park on July 28.

Waterside Area Partnership (WAP) community liaison officer Louise Moore says this year’s event promises to be the best yet.

“This festival is unique in the area because it involves all sections of the community working together to promote and accept the cultural diversity which exists within the Waterside,” she says.

“This festival is open to everyone and will promote the projects key message of breaking down the boundaries and segregation by bringing the communities and individuals together for a fun day that the whole family will enjoy.”

Louise says she is delighted that communities and individuals are participating in the event by organising their own stalls for the event including “cakes, craft, bric-a-brac and even a few games.”

Among the festival highlights are a a world food taster session, Bollywood and Flamenco dancing, the Mandarin Children’s Choir, as well as plenty of kid’s entertainment.

The festival runs from 12-4pm. More information is available by contacting WAP on 713 49594
