With a steep rise in the number of children needing foster homes, the Western Trust is encouraging the public to thinking about Fostering by attending one of the public information events taking place locally between February 25 and 1 March 1.

There is particular need for more foster families across Derry, Fermanagh and Tyrone for children aged seven to 12 years, both on a short and long term basis.

Local Information Sessions will take place at Derry’s Waterfoot Hotel on Monday, February 25, at 7.30pm, and at the Fir Trees Hotel in Strabane on Thursday, February 28, at 7.30pm.

Dympna Brogan, Western Trust Social Work Manager, Fostering Recruitment and Assessment Team is asking the public to attend events and find out more before making up their mind about fostering.

“The Trust is holding a number of public information events to highlight the need for more foster carers.

“A shortage of foster carers may result in children or young people living with foster carers outside the local area they come from and therefore having to travel significant distances to school, being far away from their family and friends, sometimes even having to be split from their siblings.

“We want to find the right foster home for each child or young person, first time round.”

The Trust is encouraging members of the public to come and meet staff at information evenings.

If you are thinking about Fostering? Or have you ever had questions about fostering and have not known where to get more information? Come along and find out more.

Everyone is welcome!
