A team of active residents in the Fountain area of the city have decided to respond to the neighbourhood’s needs by organising a multi-agency Community Information event this Wednesday evening.

Dean Taylor, a local resident, said this week: “Following a number of local meetings it became clear that people felt unsure about what services were being delivered in their area and had questions to ask.

“A group of us got together and decided that we would come up with a way they could meet the service providers face to face and get the answers and information they want.”

The group have arranged a drop-in-style event with over 20 local service providers and agencies agreeing to be there including the local community and youth groups, City of Culture, Ilex, PSNI, Housing Executive and DSD.

Wendy Jackson, who helped organise the event, said: “We felt this would be a great way of allowing people to make that first contact with different providers in a relaxed environment, where they can enjoy a cup of tea with their neighbours. I am pleased so many agencies took up the offer to come along.”

Catherine Pollock from Triax Neighbourhood Management Team, described the move by local people as “a great example of resident led community action”.

“The group identified a need within their community and came up with a way to address it. They have worked well as a team to pull this off and I hope that their neighbours take full advantage of this opportunity and come along to the event,” Miss Pollock added.

The Community Information event will take place in the Fountain Primary School this Wednesday, May 16, from 6.30pm until 8.30pm. All welcome.
