Foyle Hospice Male Walk/Run & Mini Marathon 2012
Calling all men and boys in the North West...it’s time to man up for your local Hospice!
The 8th Foyle Hospice Male Walk/Run & Junior Boys Mini Marathon will take place on Sunday, 23rd September beginning at 1.30pm. There will be two scenic routes to choose from so whatever your age and ability, you can take up the challenge whilst doing your bit to help your local hospice carry on caring.
The two routes will both start/finish at Sainsbury’s car park; the longer 5 mile route will take in the Peace Bridge and Foyle Bridge and the shorter 2 mile route will travel up to the Peace Bridge then return to Sainsbury’s car park.
The launch of the Male Walk took place at the Peace Bridge with BBC Radio Foyle presenter Gerry Anderson supporting the event and also present was June Coates representing long term and lead sponsor Seagate.
The challenge is now being laid down for the men of the North West to show their support and come out in force to help rival the staggering number of nearly 5,000 females supporting the Foyle Hospice Female Walk. Last year there was approximately 800 men and boys taking part so this year the push is on to try and get this number up to 1,000 participants! Get your local sports club and pubs involved, challenge your work colleagues or classmates.
All funds raised through this event play a huge part in funding the essential care and support Foyle Hospice provides, totally free of charge, to people affected by cancer and other life limiting illnesses across the North West. As the demand for Hospice Care services continues to grow each year, Foyle Hospice hopes that this year’s walk will be even bigger and more successful than ever before. It is essential that every participant knows their efforts truly make a difference to the lives of people living with a terminal illness.
