A total of 32 swimmers braved the River Foyle for the annual charity ‘Three Bridge Swim’ on Sunday.

The challenge, in aid of Foyle Search and Rescue (FSR), raised more than £2,200 for the life-saving charity. Members of North West Triathlon club formed the bulk of the swim group, although many others took in the 2.6 mile challenge. And it was far from a case of a bridge too far as many of the swimmers continued past the finish line at Craigavon Bridge, opting instead to exit the water a further half mile up river at the Prehen base of Foyle Search and Rescue. Paddy Wilson, of FSR said the event was “a tremendous success”. “This years event was even bigger than last years and we hope to build on that for next year. We’d like to thank everyone who took part and raised money, as the funding is vital to continue the essential service we provide.” He added that the event served as an example of how the “under utilised river can be used to its full potential”.
