Mayor launches HURT Gr8 walk of three bridges

The Mayor of Derry, Alderman Maurice Devenney, launched the HURT Gr8 walk/run/fun-day this week.

The event, which is scheduled to take place on Saturday, August 18 will use Derry’s three bridges as its course.

The reason HURT used the term ‘Gr8’ is because it is a shortened version of the word ‘great’ in texting language and the number eight symbolises the direction the participants will be moving on the day.

The Gr8 walk will start at Ebrington Square and finish at Ebrington Square where entertainment will be available for families with children.

For the more energetic walkers and runners the second part of the configuration eight will continue along the Limavady Road, over the Foyle Bridge, along the Culmore Road and carry on at the rear of Sainsbury’s before moving on along the Foyle Embankment, across the Craigavon Bridge before finishing off at Ebrington Square.

Bouncy castles, face painting and a colouring in competition will be available on the day for children.

It costs £5 to enter the Gr8 walk and each participant will receive a T-shirt, refreshments and a finishing medal.

Sponsorship forms can be got by contacting Liz or Stephen on 028 7136 9696.
