The ‘Journal’ will be taking a trip back to the late 1970s next week when its Tuesday edition includes a special eight-page photographic supplement focusing on life in the city in 1978.

The images from the Journal’s archives bring Derry’s past to life in a way that written records alone cannot.

You come face-to-face with people from the past and wonder where they came from, where they went and what their story is.

Many readers will recall some of the featured items like they happened only yesterday; for others - particularly those not even born when they took place - it’ll be a snapshot of an era long gone.

The photos in the supplement provide a snapshot of everyday life in Derry beyond the mayhem of the ‘Troubles’.

While the TV cameras inevitably focused on a society tearing itself apart, there was another world out there - one in which ordinary people lived their lives, albeit, in extraordinary circumstances.

So, for a nostalgic trip down memory lane, be sure to get your copy of Tuesday’s ‘Journal’. You won’t be disappointed!
