The Sunday Times at the weekend suggested Darron Gibson was being ‘petulant’ in his decision to withdraw from the Republic of Ireland team because he feels Giovanni Trapattoni has not given him a fair crack of the whip.

Last week I met a journalist from Liverpool, Dominic Kearney, a mad Everton fan, and he suggested the Derry man had made a huge difference to The Toffees and he was a ‘class player’.

So you’re a ‘class player’ with a Premier League club, rated by David Moyes who is one of the top managers in the country and Paul Green – Paul who? – can get on the Irish team ahead of you at the Euro championships in Poland

Wouldn’t you be ‘petulant’ about that?
