Rally against welfare cuts
A meeting will be held in Derry next week to discuss the Welfare Reform Bill and encourage local people to travel to Belfast next week to rally against cuts there.
“The only chance we have of resisting the cuts to benefits is through mass pressure,” organisers say. “The marches organised by the unions in London, Glasgow and Belfast next Saturday give us the chance to do just that. We need to ensure that there’s a solid turn-out from Derry on the Belfast march.”
A Derry meeting will be held at the office of Unison next Tuesday, October 16, beginning at 7.30pm. The venue is at the corner of Queen Street and Clarendon Street, and speakers will include Jackie Gallagher, head of the Citizens Advice Bureau in Derry and the campaigner and social policy lecturer Goretti Horgan, as well union and other representatives.
