Bryson Recycling is encouraging households in the greater Derry area to recycle as much as possible this winter to help raise much needed funds for Guide Dogs for the Blind through its ‘£1 a Tonne’ campaign.

For every tonne of material recycled through its kerbside box collection from now until March, Bryson will donate £1 to the charity. The well-known recycling provider is urging all local householders to fully utilise their recycling service in order to help them raise as much as possible in 2012.

Launching the campaign, Claire McCallum, Communications Manager at Bryson Recycling, said: “It is important that we remember those who need our help all year round. Over 6,000 people in Northern Ireland are registered as either blind or having visual impairment and out of this around 100 require the support of a guide dog.

“It is estimated that the training of one of these dogs can cost in the region of £50,000 over its lifetime.” As well as the provision of guide dogs the charity also provides other mobility services and advice to hundreds more visually impaired people throughout the year.

Claire said: “We appreciate that in the current climate not everyone can afford to provide financial support but we devised our ‘£1 a Tonne’ campaign to ensure that people don’t have to reach into their pockets to support a local charity. By simply using their kerbside box service to recycle as much as they can people in Derry can help a very generate extra funds for a very worthwhile charity”.
