Strabane hosts annual conference

Around fifty Legion of Mary members attended the annual Derry Comitium Peregrinatio Pro Christo (PPC) Conference which was hosted by Mater Dei Curia (Tyrone and Donegal) in Strabane on Sunday. It was the first time the Conference was held in Strabane.

Also in attendance were Fr Declan Boland, PP Camus (Strabane), who acknowledged the important lay work carried out by Legion groups in their respective areas, and Fr Rory Brady, Chaplain of St Eunan’s College, Letterkenny, who spoke about the forthcoming Eucharistic Congress taking place in Dublin in June.

The Conference in St Patrick’s Hall was chaired by President of Mater Dei Curia, Mrs Margaret Harte.

Those in attendance included the newly elected President of Derry Comitium, Teresa Brown, and Lily Nash, vice-president. Curia members representing groups in Derry, Tyrone and Donegal attended.

The speakers included Mary Mulpeter, from Raphoe Comitium, who spoke on the importance of PPC projects.

Reports were presented by members from Curia in Inishowen and North Derry. They included Rosemary Noone and Rose Duffy (Inishowen); Terry Harkin (Queen of Peace Curia, Derry); Lauraen Holland and Mary Cooke (North Derry Curia); and Brendan Harte and Sean Taggart (Mater Dei Curia).

The Legion of Mary carries out Catholic outreach work not just in Ireland and the UK but in countries as far afield as Russia and Finland and their numbers are growing.
