After months of concern, Lisahally Market has reopened for business under new tenant Richard Beattie from Gortin.
There was some concern after seven months of being closed, it would not re-open, with many farmers worrying they would have to continue using marts in Omagh, Kilrea or Draperstown.

However, a new tenant was secured and the market reopened for trading on Wednesday, April 30. Claudy councillor and farmer Thomas Conway welcomed the move.

"It was a great success," he said, explaining several hundred cattle were up for sale. "I'm delighted it has reopened and I would appeal to farmers in the North West to make use of the market and to come out and support it."

Colr. Conway added, " Use it or we will lose it."
