A 24-year-old Limavady man, who "took to the drink" after splitting up with his childhood sweetheart and proceeded to throw a child's car seat at a window and headbutt a door, was fined more than £700 in Limavady Magistrate's Court this week.
Luke Watson, of Dowland Road is also said to have gone to his mother’s house and broke the letterbox of the door of the home, which belonged to the Housing Executive.

On another occasion he went to the same house and damaged four interior doors, headbutting one of them.

Defence solicitor, Paddy McGurk said he had been with his childhood sweetheart, but they had broken up after 10 years. He found that hard to come to terms with and “took to the drink,” said Mr. McGurk.

The court heard how watson and his parents had parted ways, but had since reconciled. He has not given up alcohol entirely, but had cut down to a lesser amount, said Mr. McGurk, who said he felt Watson would be better off the drink entirely. He also said his client was more frustrated at himself.

RM Eamon King asked Watson what assurance could he give that he had curbed his anger.

“You seem to be a very angry young man. It is not normal behaviour,” he said.

For all the charges, plus damages paid to the Housing Executive, Watson was ordered to pay £768.
