Images of poverty-stricken children in Africa hit the right note with Ballykelly singer Ashleen Canning who has raised more than £600 for charity.
The 27-year-old said she was so struck by footage aired on the US hit show American Idol showing the plight of children in Africa that she decided to do something to help.

"I watched America Gives Back sitting in the house and I was in tears," she said, explaining what inspired her to organise a Trocaire fundraising entertainment night at a local venue.

Ashleen and her bandmate from Aura - Greysteel girl, Leanne Doherty - joined forces with local musicians, Christopher Logue and Kenny Peace and on Sunday evening raised a total of £640.
