Heartless thieves in Limavady have stolen hundreds of fundraising pounds from a cross community group in the town that was being set aside for day trips for local kids.
The Bovalley Community Association office off the Edenmore Road was broken into sometime last weekend, with thieves fleeing with at least £400.

Chairperson Jackie McCurry said local children raised the money through a sponsored walk at Benone Beac
h and it was going towards day trips, including an outing to watch the Belfast Giants Ice Hockey Team.

“It’s terrible,” Ms McCurry said.

“The kids had gathered up the money and now it’s just gone. It’s a big blow. We didn’t expect this; that somebody would steal from kids. They are really upset.”

DUP Colr. Alan Robinson condemned the perpetrators, branding them “totally and utterly heartless”.

“This money was raised by the group doing a sponsored walk, so it was earned the hard way,” he said.

Ms. McCurry said all staff members and volunteers were devastated by the break in.

“It’s sad somebody would do something like this, but whoever did it doesn’t seem to care too much.”

She added: “This was the first time, and hopefully the last.”

Colr. Robinson urged anyone with information about the incident to go to the police.

“I am appealing to anyone who knows who committed this low act to give the PSNI that information,” he said.

“The money probably will not be recovered so I hope the perpetrators are pleased to have denied these children a day out.”
