A Roe Valley businessman could be out thousands of pounds after vandals struck at his premises in Limavady, ripping expensive equipment from the roof before tossing it to the ground.
Vandals targeted the filling station shop on Main Street on Saturday night, where they tore a cooling system from its fittings and threw it on to the ground.

The businessman believes the perpetrators were drinking behind nearby public toilets, bec
ause several empty vodka bottles and beer cans were found in the area.

The man, preferring not to be named, said engineers were out trying to se if they could save the unit, which costs several thousand pounds and provides a cooling system for mineral and food cabinets in the shop. Even if it can be saved, the longtime businessman told the ‘Journal’ he will still be out quite a bit to re-fit it.

“What they need to realise is that they could put me and the people who work here out of business,” he said. “There’s also the fear that is somebody falls off the roof whey they are drunk they could be killed.”

He added: “I hope it’s just a one-off.”

A spokesman for the PSNI said: "Police in Limavady are appealing for witnesses following a report of damage to a fan cooler at a petrol station on Main Street sometime during Saturday night, September 27th. It is believed the fan was thrown from the roof of the building.”

Anyone who saw suspicious activity in the area is urged to contact the station on 0845 600 8000 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
