A 23-year old man appeared at a special sitting of the Magistrate's Court in Derry yesterday charged with an arson attack on a house in Limavady last month.
The defendant is Gareth Robert David McDowell, unemployed, from Anderson Park in Limavady.

He's charged with arson, with intent to endanger life, of a house at Josephine Avenue on June 6. The house was occupied at the time by an eighty-one years old man and his wife, who is in her late seventies.

A police officer told the court that he could connect the defendant to the offence.

Defence solicitor John Sandhu made no application for bail and the defendant, who made no reply to the charge, was remanded in custody to appear before the same court via a video link on July 24.
