A 23-year-old "thrill seeker" from Limavady who drove a quad through a local supermarket has been put on probation for one year and given 200 hours of community service.
Robert McIntyre from Coolessan Walk in the town drove the machine through the Bovalley Vivo store on January 13, when he was carrying a female passenger.
Prior to that he had been spotted driving the quad - which had no lights or registration - o
n nearby roads, with no helmet or insurance.
When he was "racing up and down the aisles" he knocked over a display sign and two piggy banks.
On Wednesday, Limavady Magistrate's Court heard that McIntyre was a "good lad" around the house, helping his mother with jobs, but when he was with his friends "he does anything anybody wants".
Defence solicitor Johnny Sandhu also said that McIntyre could have made something out of his life, but that he had drifted out of education amassing a record that started when aged 15.
District Judge Eamon King said: "We've heard that you're a good lad but you're a bit of an eejit. You're a thrill seeker.
“I'm sure you thought this was great craic at the time. You gave no thought to the shop owner trying to make a living, to the customers when you were racing up and down the aisles, and no thought to your passenger."
Telling McIntyre to "take a hold" of himself, Mr. King said: "You're standing here today while all your mates are outside laughing."
McIntyre also appeared on a disorderly behaviour charge relating to an incident where he was caught kicking a fence in the town on September 12, while shouting, “They’re all b.......”
