A 20-year-old woman has been ordered to do 100 hours community service for behaving in a disorderly manner after a fight broke out among a gang of young people.
Derry Magistrate’s Court heard yesterday that Christina Kyle, from Carnhill, was charged with disorderly behaviour in July this year after abusing police officers who were called to deal with a ‘hostile’ crowd.

A prosecuting solicitor said the wom
an had been arrested after a fight broke out within the group of young people.

She said: “Police were dealing with an incident and during this they were confronted by a hostile crowd. A fight between two females broke out and the defendant was restrained and removed from the area.

“She then became very abusive and aggressive and wanted to go back to the girl she was in the fight with. She refused to give police details and was arrested for disorderly behaviour and cautioned.”

Kyle’s solicitor said she had become a different person since the incident. He added: “Her attitude towards the police and to her substance abuse and to the people she used to hang about with have changed. She has distanced herself from her previous friends.”

District Judge, John Meehan, said: “She was part of a crowd of many scores of people resulting in difficulties in controlling circumstances for the police.

“If she wants to get involved in that she has to face the consequences.”

Kyle was given 100 hours community service.

And District judge Meehan warned her: “If you fail to turn up for work you may find yourself facing a much more serious sentence.”
