A Derry couple involved in a "melee" at Bishop Street courthouse have been bound over to keep the peace for a year.
Catherine (25) and Matthew Nixon (22) of Forest Park in the city became involved in the incident on March 1 when they attended court regarding a matter concerning a family member.

Limavady Magistrate’s Court heard on Wednesday that the family of the injured party’s family were also at court, and that things became “heated”.

A melee ensued, and the couple were identified as being involved and charged with assault.

Order

District Judge Eamon King told the couple: “You must understand a court of law is where order must be maintained.

“You will be bound over on strict understanding that this court will not expect to see you again. Do you understand?”

“Yes,” they replied.

Both were bound over for one year in the sum of £300 each.
