A 31-year-old woman has been fined £500 at Strabane Magistrate's Court for falsely obtaining an income support payment.
The court heard that Joanne Matthews, Lismore Grove, Sion Mills, falsely obtained £44 between April 13, 2003 and December 29, 2005.
She pleaded guilty to making a fraudulent claim when she signed forms detailing the receipt of income support payments at Strabane Jobs and Benefits Centre.
Matthews said that she had not received a Giro for £44 and applied for a replacement cheque which she later obtained and cashed in at Sion Mills Post Office.
However, the defendant had received the initial giro cheque and records showed she had cashed it at Drumquin Post Office.
When questioned by DHSS employees Matthews later admitted receiving both payments.
RM Liam McNally also imposed £62 court costs.
