A senior member of Derry City Council's Recreation and Leisure staff found guilty of peeping through a keyhole at a naked woman in Templemore Sports Complex has been placed on probation for two years following his sentencing at Derry Crown Court today.
Martin Carlin (57), from Ballyarnett Village, committed the offence in August of last year when he was assistant manager of the sports complex.

He was found guilty of the offence by a jury in June.

A pre-sentence report submitted to the court disclosed that Carlin had been committing, what Judge Desmond Marrinan described as, "disgusting heinous behaviour" for a considerable period of time against other unsuspecting women.

The maximum sentence for voyeurism - which only became an offence under the Sexual Offences Act five years ago - is three years' imprisonment.

As well as the probation order, Carlin, who is to be fired from his job, was placed on the Sex Offenders Register for five years.
