A Derry man who threatened to kill his ex-partner has been refused bail and ordered back to court next month.
Christopher George Quigley from Montrose Gardens in the city went to his ex-partner’s houseon September 22, allegedly highly intoxicated, reportedly smashing the glass panel of the front door.

After the woman refused to let him see their son, Quig
ley allegedly became aggressive and shouted: “You’ve had your money. I’m going to murder you.”

Defence solicitor, Paddy McGurk told Limavady Magistrate’s Court that Quigley had been to the doctor that day and told he may have stomach cancer.

He said that over the last few years, the pair had enjoyed an “amicable” relationship, but when he got the news that day from his doctor he became intoxicated and went to see his son.

Mr. McGurk said his client knew that was “unwise” and “foolish”.He also said he accepted breaking the glass but there was a dispute over the words used.

“He has let himself down,” said Mr. McGurk.

District Judge, Eamon King refused bail on the basis Quigley had a previous conviction for threatening to kill the injured party in this case.

“He made a serious threat to her,” he said.He also turned down bail on the basis there was a history of antagonism.

Quigley is due back in court on October 9.
