Sad passing of local personalities

The death has taken place at the Letterkenny General Hospital after a short illness of Nellie O'Donnell, Drumaville. Aged in her late 70s, she was pre-deceased by her husband Francis in 1992.
She was a devoted wife, mother and granny and always happy to welcome callers to her home. A quiet, friendly person, the esteem in which she was held was shown by the large crowd who attended the removal of her remains from the hospital to her home w
here she was waked. Large numbers called at her late home to offer their sympathy and attended her funeral to St Mary's Church, Bocan, for Requiem Mass officiated by Fr Jim McGonagle who also officiated at the graveside in the adjoining cemetery.

Deepest sympathy is extended to her son, Michael and daughter Una, her daughter-in-law and son-in-law and all her grandchildren, her sisters, Rose, Josie, Frances, Bridie and Lily, her brother Packie and sister-in-law, her nephews and nieces and the family circule. May she rest in peace.

Ceili dancing takes place every Wednesday night in the Wee hall, Culdaff from 9-11pm and there's also Two-Hand dancing from 8.30-10.30pm every second and fourth Thursday of the month. Admission is 5 euro and tea is served. Everyone is most welcome.

Carndonagh Community and Rural Development Company are holding a card drive in Ballyliffin Golf Club tonight at 8pm. Entry fee is 10 euro with supper included. Your support will be very much appreciated. 45 card drive winners in Glennely last week were Seamus McCormick, Greencastle; Eddie Duffy, Moneydarragh, Glennely; Brian Diver, Buncrana and Paul McElhinney, Moneydarragh, Gleneely. Cards commence every Tuesday night at 8.30pm.

Wesley Hall dancing has re-commenced on Monday nights downstairs at 8.30pm. Admission is 3 euro including supper.

The following courses will commence over the next few weeks in the Wesley Hall: card-making, intermediate art, advanced first aid and craft. If you are interested in any of these courses telephone 93-29680 between 10.15am and 5pm, Monday to Friday. These courses are supported by Donegal VAC.

variety concert will be held in Moville Methodist hall on Friday 8th February, 2008 at Pam. Admission is 10 euro including refreshments. Proceeds in aid of Hall funds. All very welcome.

The parish of Culdaff was shocked recently by the death of Hugh Doherty (H), Redrow, Culdaff.The deceased, who had been ill for a short time, was just in his late 50s.

Hughie, as he was known, was a labourer most of his short life and was extremely well known far and wide. He enjoyed life to the full.

Large numbers called to his home in Culdaff to offer their sincere sympathy. His funeral, which took place to St. Mary's Church, Bocan, was large and representative. Requiem Mass was celebrated by Fr. Joseph Morris, Bocan, who also officiated at the graveside in the adjoining cemetery.

The Rasheney National School 25 card drive will take place in the Ballyliffin Golf Club next Friday, 8th February at 8 pm. Tickets are 10 euro each and everyone is very welcome to attend.

Hannah McConnell (nee McConway), formerly of Lecamy will feature in ICRS Les Talk Old Times programme next Monday, 4th February at 10·10 am. and again at 8.10pm. Hannah talks with fond memories of her childhood.

A murder mystery night will be held in Ballyliffin Golf Club on Friday, 15th February at 7.30pm sharp. Full evening entertainment with a champagne reception and a three course dinner. Book early to avoid disappointment, tel. (074) 93 78111.

Tremone Historical Society will hold a meeting in Carrowmenagh Community Centre next Tuesday, 5th February at 8pm. It is hoped to have a series of walks and tours in the area, ie mass rocks, mass greens, sweat houses, burial grounds, standing stones, St. Ultan's Well, which is known as a monastic site. Anyone interested in their local history is welcome to attend.

A DVD titled 'The End of An Era' is now available. It describes how turf was cut with a space back in the 40s and 50s. Taking part in the DVD are Carndonagh men Larry Neil and Leo McFarland, Joe McElhinney and Harry McDaid. The DVD is on sale now priced at 12 euro and the proceeds will be donated to the Alzheimer's Unit of Carndonagh Community Hospital. There will be a ceili mor next Friday, 8th February in St. Patrick's Hall, Malin with proceeds going to Urblereagh National School. Dancing from 10pm to music by The Cottage Ceili Band. Admission is 5 euro including supper.

Urblereagh National school is 150 years old this year and there will be a reunion in August.

A very special invitation is extended to the parents of former Carndonagh Community School pupils to a guest tea reunion to be held in the sports hall on Friday, 22nd February. Tickets are on sale from former hostesses in your area or contact the school.

Serenity House Active Retirement Association are organising a five day trip to Wexford beginning 25th May. For further information, contact Serenity House on 93 82945. seats will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. So book early to avoid disappointment.

A bus is also being organised to the Highland Birthday Bash in March.

A big thank you to all those who contributed to the recent church gate collection for epilepsy. It realised 378 euro for this worthy cause.

The numbers drawn in the Gleneely FC lotto last week were 2-6-22-24. The winner of the singles pool competition in the Orchard Bar, Gleneely on Saturday night was Hugh McDermott, Foden, Carndonagh. The runner-up was Charlie Duffy, Moneydarragh. The winners of the doubles pool competition on Sunday night were Joe McCauley, Moneydarragh and Neil Gerard Duffy, Gleneely. Runners-up were James Gray, Gleneely and Hugh Kelly, Gleneely. Pool competitions continue every Saturday and Sunday evenings.

Texas Holdem winners on Thursday night in the Orchard were Daniel McLaughlin, Gleneely and Niall McDaid, Gleneely and the Sunday night winners were Eddie McNamee, Moneydarragh and Declan McLaughlin.

Texas Holdem continues every Thursday and Sunday nights.
