Lifford Stadium will host a Gala night of racing this Sunday night in aid of the 'Armagh Friends of Africa' charity.
This charity ran a hugely successful Gala meeting in October, 2007 and the monies raised were the foundations of a fund which enabled the charity to build a new school in Zambia.

This year the Committee of the ‘Armagh Friends of Africa’ were appr
oached by an ex-nun, Mary Carmel Moran - a native of Letterkenny - who spent the major part of her adult life caring for the deprived in Uganda.

She told the Committee that the sexual abuse of children is rampant in certain townships and they have agreed to build a centre for the training of counsellors who can give these unfortunate children the requisite aftercare. The admission to the Track will be 10 euro.

There will be 11 top class races on the night and the estimated prize fund will be e42,000 with 50 per cent of all prize money going to the charity. Anyone who feels they might wish to help, or simply make a donation, should contact either Sean Devlin on 07515286599 or Danny Druse on 37518005.

There will also be good cards of all graded racing at the Track tonight and tomorrow night with both night’s racing starting at 8.00 p.m. Sunday’s gala night of racing will start at 6.00 p.m.
