FOYLE GOLF Club's annual Open Week concluded on Saturday last with close on 800 cards having been taken out over the six days of competitions, the event yet again proving a phenomenal success.
Many of the large number of visitors commented on the excellent condition of the course, especially the quality of three greens and despite the mixed bag of weather conditions, everyone associated with the Ballyarnett club was delighted with the

o
utcome and thanks were extended to all the sponsors during the week.

During the competitiions, there were a number of top quality performances with Ballyliffin seven handicapper, Oscar Mailey, a former Foyle member, carding an excellent level par round to register 43 points on his way to winning the Gallagher & Doherty Monday Open.

Interestingly, Foyle treasurer and local First Trust Bank manager, Jackie Thomas (10) carded a fine 68 nett to secure victory in the First Trust Open Stableford on Friday last.

But Damien McKenna (3), produced the best round of the week on Saturday in the Northern Bank Open, a one under

par round when winning the gross prize just missing out on equalling the course record.

Third time lucky for Tommy

Tommy McBride (6) won the vice captain’s (Andy Meenagh) prize at Prehen on Wednesday last. Traditionally played on the Wednesday prior to Captain’s Day, adverse weather conditions on that and one other occasion caused the delay, to Tommy’s undoubted advantage, he being unable to turn out on the previously arranged days.
