Aoife Wilson is from Steelstown Road and is now studying Film and Television Production at the University of Westminster in London. She's the daughter of Joe and Alacoque Wilson and the sister of Nick. She went to Steelstown PS and Oakgrove College and is now in her second year at university. She says she's enjoying life in London but still loves to get back home!
How would you describe yourself?
At the moment, busy and sleep-deprived. But loving every minute.
Happiest childhood memory?
My family has a holiday house in Ballyliffin that we always went to every summer. There was no TV down there, so my cous
ins and I would just be running about on the beaches and fields all day; we'd leave the house after breakfast every morning and only come back in the evening again when we got hungry or it got dark. It's only since living in London now that I fully appreciate how lucky we were to have all that freedom and fresh air.
What was your first job?
I wanted to be a vet when I was younger so I had my first work experience placement at a veterinary clinic, which put me off the idea pretty quickly. You're helping animals, but you have to put them down, too, which I just couldn't do on a daily basis. And the cow/rubber glove thing? No thanks.
Favouritebook?
Lots, at the moment maybe 'To Kill a Mocking Bird,' 'The Lovely Bones,' 'His Dark Materials' trilogy and, of course, the 'Harry Potter' books.
Favourite film? ?
I'm a film student, so as you can imagine the list is ridiculously long. It varies depending on my mood; I love any films by Godard, Hitchcock, Antonioni, Renoir, Truffaut, Meadows, Bergman, Polanski, Lynch, Coppola, Jeunet, Gondry and Di Sica. I also love High School Musical. Don't tell anyone about that one though.
Favourite television programme?
I very rarely watch TV unless a film is on, but I love Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares. I don't like cooking; I think I just enjoy watching him square up to people. Angry man.
Favourite expression?
I don't have any one expression, but I do have the habit of just saying what I see for no particular reason. I think it's endearing, but everyone else disagrees with me.
Favourite method of relaxation?
Sleeping, shopping online (too much), watching films, writing or listening to music all rank highly. Also going for walks when I get out of London town for a bit.
Favourite holiday destination?
I absolutely love travelling; I've been around Europe quite a bit and I'm hoping to go to Thailand later in the year. I'd have to say New Zealand so far though; I went for 3 months in 2006 and it was an amazing experience. I also love Paris. I'm planning to open a little bakery there when I retire!
Who would you most like to meet?
Michel Gondry, so I can steal his brain. Or Bill Gates, so I can steal his bank balance.
What makes you angry?
Attempting to get to work on Oxford Street when it's raining. Try navigating your way through that many umbrellas without getting hit.
What makes you happy?
The little things in life, and when hard work pays off.
What human quality do you most admire?
Courage. It takes some to change the world.
What human quality do you least admire?
Ignorance.
What has been the most embarrassing thing to happen to you?
So much to choose from there, I'm the kind of person that embarrasses themselves on a regular basis. When I was in New Zealand I accidentally lost a flock of sheep I was supposed to be looking after and had to run after them up a mountain. Another time I was at Mass when I was younger and there was funeral going on. It was really crowded, so when I started to feel a bit faint, I had to push through loads of people to try to get to the door. Unfortunately, I didn't make it and ended up falling into the family of the deceased instead.
What was the worst thing to happen to you in your life? ?
I'm very lucky not to have anything that bad happen to me in my 21 years. Touch wood.
What is your greatest fear?
Losing the people I love, or having to hold a brillo pad. Maybe having to cook for Gordon Ramsey.
What has been the high point of your life to date?
I'd say my life right now is pretty amazing. I'm commissioned to write two short stories, work on 4 films over the summer and I have the best family, friends and boyfriend I could ever ask for. It's hectic but I wouldn't trade it for anything. I'm excited about what the future holds.
How would you like to be remembered?
Someone who got all she wanted out of life. And did so with amazing dress sense.
What is your most treasured possession???
My MacBook Pro, I'd be lost without it. Oh, and my boyfriend. Possibly in that order.
If you won the lotto what would you do with it?
It's incredibly boring, but first I'd probably pay off my student loans, then buy a house for me and a nice holiday for my parents. Then a Prada handbag. Or ten.
If you could be granted one wish in life, what would you ask for?
For brainless American blockbusters to be abolished, and for the money to go to worthwhile film projects instead. Or to be a little bit taller.
If you could write your own epitaph what would it be?
'Best Before -'
