Two Inishowen men are bucking the trend, starting up a new business to help people in the recession.
Fisherman Mark Steele, from Redcastle, and electrician Liam Kelly from Buncrana have launched their own website called ‘find a worker’ in a bid to help people get back to work.
The duo said it’s becoming increasingly difficult for people to find w
ork during the credit crunch because they simply can’t afford to promote themselves.
But thanks to Mark and Liam’s website, www.findaworker.ie, the pair reckon it’s now much easier for out-of-work labourers to bag a job.
Speaking to the Journal this week, Mark said: “There is a serious gap in the market for this kind of thing. We know lots of people that are not able to promote themselves properly. And with the way things are with the economy at the moment people are finding it very difficult to find work.”
He said there are three aspects to the new website. Not only can individuals promote themselves but so can businesses. Businesses can also post job online too.
Mark said: “This is for all over the country and I really do think it will help a lot of people get back in to work. It is so difficult at the moment because of the collapse in the construction industry.
“I was talking to people that have come home after they have been away for a couple of years. They’ve lost all their connections and they don’t know how to promote themselves. This site is great for them, because networking is key in today’s society.”
