The civic amenity site at Carndonagh will continue to accept all manner of goods for recycling for the next few weeks.
Senior Engineer Con McLaughlin told Tuesday’s meeting of the Inishowen Electoral Area Committee that he could not yet confirm the exact date when activities there will be curtailed to allow for a planned upgrade of the facility.

“The construction
start date has been delayed awaiting completion of paperwork with the contractor, so I can’t say exactly when work will start. But the centre will be fully operational for the next few weeks at least.”

Once a date has been confirmed, this will be advertised in all local media, along with guidelines of what materials will still be accepted during the four month construction phase of new facilities at the site.

Process

Mr McLaughlin said that the centre will continue to process the following types of waste during the upgrade works: glass, cans/tines, textiles, waste electrical and electronic equipment, cardboard, batteries, fluorescent tubes, books and bulky goods for disposal.

He encouraged Inishowen residents to avail of kerbside collection services provided by Logan Waste (936 1888) and Inishowen Recycling (932 1800) for recycling of newspapers, plastics, tetrapak and cans/tins during the upgrade period. Recycling banks for bottles, tins and textiles are also freely available at many locations throughout Inishowen.
