The secret to long life is nothing other than sheer hard work, according to one of Carndonagh's oldest residents who turned 100 last week.
Daisy Smith, from Ballyloskey reckons keeping busy is the key to a happy healthy and long life.
And despite reaching the grand age on Sunday the mum-of-five and grandmother to 25, is intent on keeping active.
Her daughter Gretta told the 'Journal' Daisy is very active for her age and still likes to potter around the garden and make a family dinner on a Sunday.
Gretta said: "She is pretty fit, she likes to look after her own home.
"She goes to the day care centre on Monday to Fridays because she enjoys the company and she still cooks a family dinner on a Sunday.
"Apart from being a little deaf she is very healthy.
"She still likes to potter around the garden."
Daisy swears its her hard work from running a farm with her late husband David that has helped her reach the mammoth age.
Gretta added: "She has never been one to sit down.
"When we were younger we didn't have water so she would walk up to the farm to feed her chickens and carry the water from the well on her way back down.
"She has enjoyed good health fortunately."
To celebrate the milestone birthday, Daisy's children, Gretta, Ray, David and Maureen - her oldest son James is deceased - along with the extended family and friends threw a party for her.
The party is being held in the Ballyliffin Hotel and her daughter Maureen, along with the youngest member of the family are flying home from Texas for the special occasion.
Gretta added: "We are absolutely thrilled she will reached 100 on Sunday. She is enjoyeding good health and she is very independent."
Local man, James McLaughlin described Daisy as 'a great lady' having known her and her family for more than 50 years.
Said James: "Daisy might be a 100 years old but she'd pass for thirty/forty years younger. We'll have a wee 'do' on Sunday to celebrate her long life."
