Auditions have been scheduled for a production of Oliver, to be staged in St Mary's Hall, Buncrana this autumn.
The selection panel will be looking for talented individuals, both adults and children, in order to cast all principal roles for this Inishowen version of the much loved Charles Dickens classic as retold through the musical written by Lionel Bart.
A spokesperson said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for people all over Inishowen, giving them yet another opportunity to showcase the wonderful talent and abilities that abound throughout the peninsula. We would encourage as many people as possible to come along on the day and give it their best shot. Given that there will be ten performances, we are double casting for the major roles of Oliver, Artful Dodger, Fagin and Nancy, as well as forty boys and girls who will make up two groups of orphans/Fagin’s gang. This means that more people get an opportunity to experience playing the lead roles.
He added: “It’s a very exciting project and there is a lot of work already underway to ensure that all aspects of the production including the music, set and costumes will tell the story of Oliver! in a spectacular fashion. We are confident that this production will be a fabulous community event and the final production will bring Buncrana’s own Westend to life.
“In light of the current BBC TV series “I’d Do Anything”, there has been a lot of hype around this particular musical and the production team is delighted to have been able to secure the rights from Cameron Mackintosh through Music-scope prior to its opening in London at the end of the year.”
Auditions will be held in St Mary’s Hall Buncrana on May 24, 2008 as follows: children (both boys and girls) aged 8 – 11 years from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. and adult auditions will commence at 2 p.m. Anyone interested in auditioning is asked to arrive at the audition centre at the commencement time. Fast-track application forms are available upon request by e-mail greasepaint_productions@hotmail.co.uk and this can help secure a scheduled time for your audition so that you do not have to wait around.
