One of Donegal's longest established nightclubs, the Grill, has been placed on the property market after confirmation this week that it has gone into receivership.
Advertisements announcing the sale of the premises by private treaty are being published in weekend newspapers. The selling agents are the Letterkenny based Sherry Fitzgerald Rainey.
The premises remained closed on the August bank holiday weekend
- traditionally one of the busiest in its calendar. And while the Oceans restaurant and the Bar Rouge - part of the Grill complex - were opened over the weekend, they have since shut down.
Speaking earlier this week, the officially appointed Receiver, Mr. Seamus Farren of Farren Mulhall Roarty, Auditors and Accountants, confirmed that the property was up for sale and said he would be meeting with creditors on a “one to one” basis.
“My duty of care is to the all the creditors and staff,” he maintained.
Established by former Fianna Fail Senator, Bernard McGlinchey and previously known as the Golden Grill, the nightclub has been a feature on the Letterkenny social scene for the past 47 years and attracted huge crowds from all over the North-West. Mr. McGlinchey’s son Paul, subsequently took over the running of the premises which continued to be a mecca for nightclub goers.
Over the years it also hosted everything from Fianna Fail conventions to bingo sessions along with many renowned international groups including in more recent times, Ocean Colour Scene and Bad Manners.
At one time, the Golden Grill could boast a function on seven nights a week but this was eventually reduced to weekend events.
